What is CRAC?
CRAC is a year-long online diploma program for artists, thinkers, and activists, created by DIP. It is a transdisciplinary program of thought and action that seeks to rehearse ways of acting and becoming sensitized to a present in radical transformation. Over the course of a year, an international group moves through six thematic axes - ruins, bodies, languages, borders, holograms, futures - through 27 practical seminars taught by some of the most stimulating voices on the international scene.
What does CRAC mean?
CRAC has no fixed meaning: it's an acronym that never means the same thing twice. Contradictions, Resistances, Art, and Collapse is one of its possible combinations, but many others coexist alongside it - Chaos, Bodies, Creation, Scars, Contingency, Fall, Crisis, combined with Ruins, Rupture, Break, Resistances, Affect, Art, Action, Ambiguity, Collapse, Crisis, Community, Chaos, Contradictions, among others. Each instructor has their own CRAC, and each participant, both when applying and at the end of the program, defines their own: the acronym is completed with four personal words that condense their outlook, their practice, or their moment.
Is prior experience required?
There is no minimum number of years of experience required. Diversity of trajectories, disciplines, and geographic contexts is prioritized as a central component of the learning experience, so the call is open to people from different levels of experience and fields of practice.
Is it possible to apply as a collective?
The application process is based on an individual document (personal information, bio, work sample, motivation letter, etc.), so applications are individual. If you are part of a collective, each member of the collective needs to apply individually.
What is the frequency and length of the sessions?
Sessions take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 to 10:00 PM CET (Spain time). There are 62 sessions in total over the ten months, with a total course load of 284 hours.
What happens if I can't attend a session?
The program requires commitment and sustained attendance throughout the ten months, since the journey is built collectively, session by session.
Can I take part as an auditor, without actively engaging?
No. CRAC proposes active pedagogies: the seminars are not theoretical spaces for passive listening, but exchanges where all participants collectively build the journey through concrete exercises and group discussion. Active participation is a constitutive part of the program.
I speak Spanish but not that well - can I still participate?
Yes. A basic level of Spanish that allows you to understand and hold a conversation is enough.
I don't speak English - can I participate?
Yes. The program is taught mostly in Spanish, and the 5 seminars in English have translation available for those who need it.
Are the sessions virtual or in person?
The entire program is online and live, across the 62 scheduled sessions.
How do the individual mentorships work?
During November, each participant receives two individual mentorship sessions to support their final project. Three possible mentors from the faculty are suggested, in order of preference, and the final mentor is assigned based on availability.
What is expected of the final project?
It is not an academic thesis, but a practical thesis-work: it can be a work of art, an essay, a video, an action, a song, an archive, a performance, a text, a protocol, an image, or any new format the year has opened up. There are no disciplinary restrictions.
What is the number of available spots?
25 participants will be selected, prioritizing a diverse crossing of trajectories, geographies, and disciplines.
Is a certificate awarded upon completion?
Yes, CRAC awards a DIP diploma certifying a year of critical thinking and collective creation, the production of one's own project, and having completed a demanding journey.
How does production support for the final project work?
At the end of the program, participants who have met the commitment and attendance requirements, and completed all the proposed production work, receive €300 in support for the development of their final project.
